This may sound kind of stupid, but after looking at the Microsoft site, I am still unsure if the following is possible. Is it possible to upgrade a standalone Windows 2000 Server DC to Small Business Server 2000? It comes out much cheaper for us to do it this way than to buy some of the programs as standalone products with the license costs. Thanks for any guidance.

You can. It's not a problem at all. The only difference from installing SBS 2000 on an empty machine is that you don't get the help of the wizards for setting up the w2k parts of SBS and that you might have misconfiguered you AD/DNS/WINS/etc. for running all the other parts of SBS on one machine.
