OK, here is another crazy one. I am going to a site that SBC tested and states they are receiving only 43 volts of battery. They want me to test the DID adaptor for proper voltage.
WHAT? Dont they regulate the voltage that comes in? I know they can see shorts and stuff, but they can see the voltage that our system is putting out?
Bit of history. SBC was drilling into the basement for another feeder and didnt seal the hole good enough. The telco room flooded about 3-4 weeks ago, and has had problems ever since (go figure)

Huh? I'm assuming SBC is telco?? If they have a problem with their voltage, it's their problem.

Actually, in the case of the D-I-D module, the system also provides voltage.

However, SBC should be able to use the 43 or so volts from the LEGEND/MAGIX, 'cause they have since DAY ONE of this product.

Are these just "regular" D-I-D Modules? - If so, they can be tested "STAND ALONE" with no SBC stuff hooked to them and should work just fine.

That is, you could put a test set on the port, go off hook, and dial any number in the dial plan and get it.

You won't get dial tone, but that would prove the LEGEND/MAGIX is not broken.....

Also, be sure to check polarity on the DID trunks. The Legend is set up for you to terminate SBC on a jack, and use a standard line cord to connect to the DID module. If you are using a Cat-5 patch cable, or plugging in a connecting cord and punching down to SBC, the polarity would be reversed.

Yes, analogue DID is polarity sensitive! What happens if the trunk has reversed TIP/RING? It will not get any calls because when the switch sees the reversal, it indicates a "busy" condition to the switch. Hence no calls (this also is one way to block traffic if you need to for maintenance purposes). Now the voltage condition could cause the trunk to malfunction. But if it worked before the flood occurred you or SBC may have a wet cable or splice that could change the loop conditions and cause problems, resistance short to ground or even bad carbons at the protector if they got wet. One last thing make sure the Legend has a GOOD ground to the power module/s per the practice.

Hope this helps!

But from previous experiemce, telco can see if it is a tip/ring reversal, correct? If someone calls in and gets a fast busy, what does that mean? Trunks full or line problems?

It is an intermittent problem and I am assuming that we will have to do a vendor meet. Tested everything yesterday and it all checked out.

Thanks for the help.

A fast busy could mean a ton of things. One option is to send unassigned DID numbers a fast busy in the legend/magix.A fast busy could also indicate a reversal to the DID Module. As well, I have gotten Fast busy's at the Telco side. Another instance, once we had a bad DID card that wasn't passing a wink. You could go on the did ports and dial the extension number, but the card itself wasn't passing the wink. TIP:if you have a test set, you can go offhook and watch your polarity lights, they should go from reversal..straight..reversal or Red..Green..Red. This is an indication that you are sending a wink back to telco. We have a Ton of those ADTRA channelbanks around here, so those cards do go bad as well, sending a fast busy..invalid parameters set at telco..fast busy. The ;ist can go on and on. If all the trunks are busy...you should get a SLOW busy. I have around here. I'm not sure what other telco's do around the country..but around here it is a slow busy. Hope that helps.

How are these DID trunks provisioned in Merlin? Immediate or wink start? Does this correspond with what is being provided by telco?

It can be either or......yet, if they are set for immediate, you can't set them for rotary.

I know it can be either, but the type should match what's on telco's end. This is just a stab in the dark and all, but perhaps check in SPM and then have telco verify their end.

Also check the error log on the Merlin. If there are trunk pool all busy or general card failure events going on they will show up in the error log.

This system also has a T1, not sure if it is a straight T or PRI AND, I dont know if it is being shared with data. I found out that they have 2 DID ranges with only 8 DID trunks. I forget exactly, but I think that we are talking about 30-40 DID's. If all trunks are busy, will it be a slow busy? Personally, I think they should port everything over the T. That is A LOT of lines for 8 trunks.
