I have recently upgraded from Win98 to Win2000 pro and since then, any sound (wave, MP3, etc.) who’s played on the pc plays for like 3 sec and then pauses for like 3 sec and so on, causing silence every few seconds.

I have a SB16 PCI card. I tried different players (Winamp, Media Player, Real, etc.) and the problem is also present in games.

I removed and reinstalled newer drivers, but no luck.

Is there any known solution?

I wonder if you have changed any of the software that is running since you changed OS.
It more sounds like lag, so if your antivirus is scanning all the time or you have too many apps running perhaps you are getting the prob that way.

Try turning off some background stuff and see if it still does it.
