Hi

I want to save a word document on a server in such a way that users can open it but not change anything. When they however save the same document to their own computer they can then make changes and save them as such, i.e. the orginal can not be changed by anyone other than me. Is this possible?

Thanks

Hans

You can also select "Options" (Button on the Save/Save As Dialog box) when you save the file and enter a "password to modify".

This means that they can open the file but as read only. If they make changes it will not let them save the file, only Save As.

Sound advice above. Not sure what you're trying to do but if the original is on your computer you can ALSO just save the thing like you save everything else. then open windows explorer, click on the file, select properties and check the "read only" box.
