Saving to strange paths

Yet another question....

When I am saving a file (and/or using VSS) it seems to default to the DOS version of the folder e.g if the folder I start off saving to is Developement, after a few times it defaults to DEVELO~1.

Any ideas why this happens and how I can get it to stop??

Windows still uses DOS file nameing. Caveat: Name files using DOS conventions, ie 8.3 There's been many a time I'd like the file name to reflect more about the content of the file, but alas...........
