saving to favorites folder

Recently, whenever I click on "add to favorites" from the favorites menu (and it doesn't matter if I choose a folder or not), my computer "hangs" for a long time. After a few minutes it's OK, but the mouse pointer changes to "busy" for about 5 minutes, and I can't do anything.

I do have quite a bit in favorites, but I have seen others with more. Should I try reducing the size, though? I can just save some addresses somewhere else so that I have them, but my favorites folder is cut down. Any suggestions?

Are there any service packs available for whatever version you run?
Whichisit, by the way?
A clever way of rounding this is to make a custom start page (with Front Page...if you can't do it in Notepad) and add your organized links in it.
It also may well be that a repair install of IE would get you around it...depending on your OS and method of installing current version.
