saving things

hi, i'm pretty new to javascript, so this might be a stupid question but i'll ask anyway,
is it possible to save a variable to a text or any other type of file on my webspace and also to extract the variable when it is needed?

you would have to use cookies or server-side jscript to make that happen...browsers are not really built to persist data... if you want to place it in a file, try using the FileSystemObject - more on it here:
