Saving 'previous record' at detail time

I am writing a report with employees number as a break. At detail time I need to access the previous record to compare a field to the current record. This field is a TIME field.
I have tried to solve the problem with queries.. no luck
How do I save the a field in current record so I can compare it to the next(current) record at Detail Time?
Your help would be much appreciated.
