Saving Outlook 98 Attachment Hangs Outlook

I have a strange intermittent problem where one of our users receives many messages with attachments. On some of the messages with Word 97 Attachments the user will try to save the attachment and Outlook will hang. Also if they try to move the whole message to a PST file Outlook will hang.

It doesn't seem to be the message at fault as I can open their mailbox and manipulate the message with no problem on my machine. The word attachment is intact and not virus infected.

When the attachment is being saved some of it appears in the \temp directory before Outlook hangs.

We've reinstalled Outlook.
We've also tried disabling the virus software but it's not that.

Any suggestions?
