Some of the work I've been doing has imagery that goes beyond the edges of the artboard. When I save the file as a PDF, I want only the artboard (the 8/12 x 11 inch area) to be saved with the PDF, but Illustrator CS saves the entire art area.

What option do I need to use to save only the artboard in Illustrator CS?

Thanks
Jayson

Draw a box around the artbord. With the box selected, go to object - crop area - make. Then when you export, it will only export what is in the crop area.

If your goal is the artboard only, you can save as step. Withe nothing selected, object>crop area>make.

When nothing is selected, the crop area is based upon the artboard dimension and position.

this method of croping my art work doesn't work in illy 9.0. any help with that version?

The method described by ayersart works.

Draw empty box the size of artboard and go to Object/Crop Marks/Make.
