I receive "an unknown error has occurred" when I try to save an .ai file. Destination of file doesn't matter, e.g., harddrive, network server. I can, however, save an .eps and .pdf. Have installed all known updates as of 2/7/06.

Any suggestions?

Creative Suite CS2, Windows XP.

I too am using CS2, and have had no problems straight out of the box. Out of curriosity, can you save it with the "Save As" command as opposed to the "Save" command? Just out of curriosity, are *.ai files associated with Illustrator? Had an incident with that recently out of the blue, Xp lost its association with the selected product.

Save As" does not work, nor does "Saving" as Untitled. Yes .ai files are Illustrator specific files.I don't know why XP lost the Illustrator association with .ai files, but you can always reassign which application to open files with via properties.

Dunno if this will solve the problem for you but it might. I suddenly lost the ability to save in .ai format some weeks back. No problem saving .ait, .eps or .pdf. Neither Save nor Save As to any destination worked. Tried turfing prefs, repairing permissions, reinstalling Illustrator (CS)…nothing. I'm Mac-based, running 10.4.3 through 10.4.5 over the course of the problem, but what finally worked for me wouldn't be platform-specific. Wherever a PC user would find the adobefnt.list file is where you might look for a solution. I had two files: AdobeFnt06.lst and AdobeFnt07.list
Threw out the 06 file and everything's back to normal. Hope this helps.
