I've created an image with multiple layers and saved it using the Save-as option. When I reload it, it shows up as the merged image with only one layer, the background layer, so that the individual layers can't be edited. How can I save the image so that when I reload it all layers show up in the Layers Palate and can be edited/deleted.

You need t save it in a format that can retain the layers. Jpeg for example cannot do it.

Try Saving it in PSP's native format instead.

You seem to be right, to some degree. If you save it as a PSP file, you can retrieve it and edit with layers. But, my experience is, only one time. Seems if you save it a second time, or maybe if you save it to another file as a JPG for a webpage, the layers disappear. Can't figure this one out....

That's what I said. PSP's native format will retain the layer information.

Jpeg is a raster image format, and has no support for layer information. When you try to save it as a JPG Paint Shop should tell you it needs to flatten it.

Now I'm not sure what you are doing, but I can save an image 50 times if i wish, as long as it is kept in PSP format the layer information is preserved.

Saving it into some other format and then into PSP format, will not retrieve the layers. Once it is saved in a format that doesn't not support layers, the layers are gone.

For that reason if you work with many images, it is customary to keep an original file in PSP. So you can make changes to the layers if you wish.

Also when saving as JPG or GIF for web usage, its a good idea to use the File Menu ->Export options so you can compress the files will retaining quality.

Thanks. It seems to be working like it should now. I don't know what I did wrong the first time. Must have hit a wrong key. Thanks too for the tip on exporting files for webpage use. I'll have to give that a try.

No prob, glad to have helped.
