1, First the PSD format - If I add more layers or images to the current PSD file, will the image quality decrease if I kept on saving them within the same file? I know if you do that to Jpg format, then the answer would be yes because of the compression.

2, This is one that I really want to know most.
When saving from a PSD to a JPG format:
- Usually when I save my PSD to JPG format, I just click on the SAVE AS and choose JPG without merging all the layers.
- Suddenly someone told me that I should merge the layers by using the Flatten Image before saving to JPG format?

The problem is, the person doesn't know why, he was told by someone else. The question is, does it make any difference or gain any benefit if one was to flatten the layers first before saving to JPG as opposed to direct SAVE AS then JPG?

Thanks.

1. No.
JPG loses quality becuase its a lossy format. PSD is not, so it doesn't lost quality.

2. It doesn't really matter - JPG doesn't support layers, so there is no need to flatten the image. Photoshop will do it automatically.

Thank Uri, that is what I thought too.

The person that I talked to said if I don't flatten the image, the colors that save under that SAVE AS JPG aren't the same as the FLATTEN IMAGE. Anyhow, he was saying all other stuffs which I have no clue what they are.

Hey, why don't you just do a test. Save 2 versions. One flattened before saving and the other left as layers before saving. Compare the two. Bingo, there's your answer.

Yeah, I tested that method as soon as he mentioned but I don't see any different in the file size.

I'll try to dig up that thread and copy words by words as to what he said. *If I find it*
