Here's my delimna. I've greated a Performance Review database. Now my HR Director wants staff to be able to save it to a floppy so that staff can take the form home if they wish to complete it. At this point the file is 1.9mb. They were able to do this in Filemaker and want to be able to still do it. But I think they were using Filemaker as just a form template, and not a database.

Is this possible? That is, to save a form from this database to floppy, have staff complete it at home, and bring it back and merge with the database.

There are three possibilities which come to mind - neither of which may be true - you don't say what software these people have available.

1. Your homebodies have Access on their home PC's.

Give them a mini application with just one table (empty) and one form. When they return the floppy to you with the data on-board you can copy the table across to your application or use the import wizard to draw the information into the main table.

2. Your homebodies have MS Excel on their PC's.

Create a copy of the form and attach to a blank copy of the table. Export the form as an Excel spreadsheet which they can open and fill in as necessary. If you have lots of fields to fill-in this might be a bit tedious as they will be strtched out across the spreadsheet.

3. Your Homebodies have MS Word on their PC's.

Design a form as a Word template populated with textboxes. They open the template as a new document and fill in the textboxes and then save the new document.

You then use some Automation code in Access to open the document on the floppy and stepping through the textboxes one by one copy the contents into fields in a recordset.

Your boss is so impressed he gives you a raise.

Are any of these possible?

Im sorry. Im converting Filemaker to Access 2000.

You said originally:

If the above statement is still true then my suggestions are still feasible. The question remains, what if any software do your collegues have on their home PC's - Access, Excel or Word or All of them? The answer to this point will determine what kind of solution you can offer them since you cannot provide a Form to fill in if they don't have appropriate software to open it with.
