I'm not very familiar with Macs, but have you tried re-installing PM? And which version of PM are you using?

What OS are you using and have you increased the usable ram to the program? If you are using 8.6 or OS 9, you can do a Get Info on the program and give it more juice. Double the preferred ram setting and increase the minimum by 35%.
Do you have any other programs open at the same time?
Do you use Virtual Memory? Depending on the Mac you have Virtual Memory needs to be On or Off.
