Saving for compatability with previous version than CS

Is it possible to save a PSD in Photoshop CS and then be able to open it in older versions. Anything PSD I save at the moment CS at the moment can't be opened in any pervious version it says there is insufficent memory but that is not the case.

Can you 'export' rather than 'save' to an earlier version?
