I need to save an 'archive' version of a workbook so that it remains static and will no longer pick up information from linked workbooks.

How do I save it with all the current information intact, but with no links? I see that I can get clean.xla from the MS site, which will delete all my links, but won't this also remove all the data?

Any ideas?

PaulMilnes

I don't think that it would, Paul.

An easier/quicker way is to just select all your data, hit Copy. Then, while keeping your same cells selected, hit Edit-paste special-values.

techsupportgirl@home.com
<a href=
Dear Dreamboat

Many thanks for your quick reply. I shall certainly try the Clear.xla idea (isn't it odd that Excel doesn't allow you to cancel a link?).

I can't really use the 'paste special' route as the workbook has tons of sheets. Mind you, it occurs to me that I could create a macro to cylcle through them all, selecting all, copying and pasting the values. Would that work?

It does seem a lot of trouble for something which people must surely want to do all the time!

Thanks again

Paul

Sure, that would work, but you'd still have to go to each sheet. Try going to <A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> 's Excel forum and have them take a shot at it. They're very good and tend to write an awful lot of free code if they don't already have something written. It's free, too.

techsupportgirl@home.com
<a href=
Hello Paul,

Try this:
To break links "Edit" then select "Links" once in the dialogue box select the file(s) you want to "break" and click on the appropriate button.

Good Luck,
Michael

Thank you, Dreamboat and Michael, for your excellent help.
