Running Office 2000 on Windows NT workstation 4.0 SP6a. When saving workbooks or documents to a share on Windows NT Server 4.0 SP6a, Excel or Word will freeze up (task list shows Not Responding). The user is unable to end the task, and has to resort to cold booting the machine.

It does not happen everytime, but the more the user uses Excel/Word, the greater the risk of it freezing during saving. This occurs on 80% of the workstations (8 of 10 machines) all running Windows NT Workstation 4.0 SP6a. Because it occurs on multiple workstations, I'm not sure if it is a program issue, or a network issue.

Any ideas or insight would be greatly appreciated.

I was recently looking into the Excel problem (this is the second time)...

1. The first time happened when users saved Excel files to an NT server with Innoculan running. After lots of research, I found a patch for innoculan.

2. Just on Friday, Excel would freeze for one user almost every time when saving his files to the file server. Once I slowed down his network speed to 10 MB it seemed to solve it. It appears if I now have a cabling issue to look into, but it is too early to tell...

What did you find??
