Hi.
Im new to Illustrator and im having problems saving eps files. I have imported a file in j-peg and trying to save it in eps format so my cutting software will recognise it. When I try to open the file in my cutting software all I see is a black preview box and when I load it there is no image. What am I doing wrong?

What is wrong? You are assuming that it is not important to know the difference between a raster/bitmap image (your JPG) and a vector image (needed by your cutter). Try reviewing the manual to understand the differences in these types of files.

You need to redraw the JPG photo as a line drawing.

I'm guessing that you might have to check what the cutting software can handle. You could have to change the postscript level in the eps. For preview, select the appropriate format in the drop down menu under preview in the eps export window.

If you're using Save As and picking eps, it might not work with your other app if that app is older. You might try Export and pick Illustrator eps- legacy which should give you an eps that will work with older software.

If you just have to change jpeg to eps, you could use photoshop.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4
