saving an external file as field value

is there a way to save an external file like excell file in a table as field value.

Where does that file reside? Server, client, somewhere on the network? What tool do you plan to use? Sql*plus, Forms, other, only database server? In fact many ways exist for this task.

i didnt give the whole details, in fact i want the whole excell sheet to be saved in a single field in table through forms like we do it for images.

i'm using forms-5 oracle-8 win-XP

You may use OLE container, but some additiona information is stored with file content, thus it may be retreived only by Forms. As a compensation you'd get inplace activation and other usefull features.

Datatype in table is LONG RAW. Everything else is done by Forms.
