Saving a report in a directory other than crystal

I am trying to compile reports in 6.0 and saving them in our electronic filing system. I cannot get these executable files to work from the directory other than in crystal. I have tried just about anything. Is there a way to move them from the crystal directory or do they need to stay there?

First, make sure that you copied ALL the files, not just the .exe file, that the compile creates. It also creates a .crf file.

If that is not the problem, then go to the machine where you wrote and tested these reports and make sure you can still execute it from within crystal reports. Then compile the report and copy the files to another directory and try to execute the .exe file from the same machine where you can execute it from within crystal reports.

If this works, then test it from another machine. If you cannot get it to work from a different machine, make sure the workstation has all the services setup to run the report - for example a crystal report on a btrieve database will not execute unless the workstation itself has the btrieve engine installed, even if you compile it.

You need 3 files in the same directory for each report. RPT, EXE and CRF. Also, the PC has to have the runtime engine installed, using the distribution feature, or a copy of CR. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting
