Long before I started working for my company, someone had an old PC loaded with CR 8.5 Pro that some highly important reports for our Service Desk metric reporting were created. Needless to say, the computer is VERY old, and runs VERY slow and made worse by the fact that I have to VNC into it to run ONLY these 3 reports. They require an update each time to pull the previous month's data. We successfully transferred the files to a network shared folder to run them from my personal computer which is loaded with CR 10 Std, and can open/view them just fine.

The problem lies when I (or my boss from his computer) try to "Refresh" the data for the information we need. We are getting an error (when running from our computers) that tells us the report was created in professional and cannot be opened in standard and we must upgrade.

Is there any way to "Save down" a report from the 8.5 Pro version so it can be opened/modified/refreshed on 10 Std? I'm not sure if we even still have the Pro version on our server to load, and when I last tried to use the files from my computer and got an error, I tried to load 8.5 back on my computer and it COMPLETELY screwed up every single report I use on a daily basis, and had to go back to my v10.

Thanks!

Hi,
The problem may be with the database connection in the Pro version..It had more options and was the lowest version that could connect to a server-based (Oracle,SqlServer, etc) remote databases - the standard edition clould only,IIRC, connect to local or file-system based databases.

Have you tried just saving the report template in Crystal 10 without refreshing? Do a "Save As" so that you still have your original. There were some significant changes to the internal structure of the .rpt file between 8.5 and 9. You may have better luck if you're working from a version 10 report file.

A computer only does what you actually told it to do - not what you thought you told it to do.

Hilfy, that did not work. I opened it in 10.0 (which I could do before), did a Save As and gave it a new name, closed it, and reopened it from the file location, did a "Refresh" and put in the password required, and STILL get the error:

"Not implemented.
Details: Cannot connect to this data source. This is the Crystal Reports Standard Edition. Please upgrade to Crystal Reports Professional version (or higher) in order to connect to the data source you have selected."

Hi,
You will need to change the database connection to one that is supported by the Standard version, if possible. If not, you are stuck unless you can move the data to a different, supported database.
