saving a Clipping path for MS Word

I have created a clipping path in PhotoShop and would like to save it for Microsoft Word so that it does not have a white background.

I have tried saving it as a .tif, but this does not seem to work.

Is there another approach that I need to take in order to import images without a white background? Also, would the approach change depending on the platform? PC or Mac?

I would be very grateful for any tips!
