Hey all, happy Hump Day (Wednesday).

We are running SAVFE version 3 (build 109) on two mail servers.

Currently each server has 4 stores of 50 gigs each. The scan time for these stores is very long. We were thinking of creating 8 stores of 25 gigs each.

My question is thus, will the scan go any faster or does SAVFE see one big database?

Thanks in advance you gurus!

Deanna

Actually if you are using Microsoft exchange they highly recommend that you do not scan the stores. We run over 190 exchange servers on our network and we exclude the stores.

Thanks very much. Was that a direct recommendation from Symantec?

No - This is directly from Microsoft. Symantec follows Microsofts recommendations.

Excellent thanks. Time to search Microsoft KB. Much appreciated galcierxx. Have a great weekend!

Sorry to bring this up again, but what seems obvious is that without the scan of stores you are highly susceptible to day 0 viruses. We definitely don't want that to occur.

Does anyone have a specific way they have configured the scanning of stores without disabling?

Okay I contacted Symantec Support and they recommended setting the actual scan times to off peek hours. They also suggested disabling background scanning. Apparently it takes 1 hour per gig to scan with background scanning enabled.
