savevg question

Will the following work, and produce a log of all filesystems/directories/files backed up:

savevg -X -i -v -f /bkup_dir/vgname.savevg vgname

Looks like the "log" will be on the console you are using, what do you expect for the "log" and where do you expect to see or find it after the event?
 
I'll be running this from a script and was hoping it would set up it's own log file, or will I have to add > /log_file at the end of the line ?

I think it might work better with >> /log_file.
I suspect with > /log_file each line of output will overwrite the last.
I think you'll also need to touch (create) the log_file before you begin.
You might want to add to your script to touch the file and include the date and time in the filename.
Give it a try and see what works.
