Save the spreadsheet to be xml rather than html

We have a need to save the Excel spreadsheet in XML format. Excel offers saving the spreadsheet in htm/html formats, but not xml. You know how to change the format from html to xml or any tool would help do this?

Did you try to import your sheets with openoffice ?

It's free and it saves it's documents in zipped xml-files.

You simply can unzip them with winzip or powerarchiver.

Do you have access to a copy of XL2002 at all. This will allow you to save in xml format.
