Save MS-Office documents

I'm looking for a technical solution allowing me to read and save MS Office documents stored in a database accessible from an EJB application server.
Does anyone already encountered this kind of problems?Or have:
- you already controlled Word from a browser (IE), through an applet or an ActiveX.
- have knowledge in transferring Office documents via HTTP

Any help is welcome!
