Good morning. We have to import data from .csv files (supplied by another agency) into Access and have created some import specs. Unfortunately extra fields get added, to the end, on a regular basis. Rather than create a new spec each time - selecting/deselecting about 50% of the fields (222 at the last count), and setting some to Memo, each time! - we thought it would be nice to be able to use the previous spec and just add a new field name at the end and SaveAs. This is when we get the eoor message

The field 'Field222' contains a start position of '34838'. The maximum start position allowed is 32767.

If we start a new spec with this extra field it all appears to be OK.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,
D€$

OK. Got it.

Open the previous Spec.
Add the fields(s) to the end as required.
Click the OK button. This appears to be the winner!
Click the Advanced button to go back into the import process.
SaveAs. You can overwrite the existing or (I prefer) add "_V2" to the end of the name.
OK again.

Many thanks,
D€$
