Hello All, i need to write up a statement for my managment on why do i think we need to upgrade to MX7. Being an avid fanatic of CF, i'd like to preserve it, while the company is moving towards .NET environment. We currently run CF 5. thank you all for input.

If they are making a decided move to .NET for their other applications, there is not really any good arguments to keep CF. Not saying that CF is no good, I love it.

If you need a high level of interaction between web and desktop / server /client apps, keeping everything .Net would help, and be a big argument against keeping CF.

If only some interaction is required, make sure they know the capabilities CF has to work with XML, and web services that other applications could use.

without knowing the situation, it's a tough call. The right tool is the best one for the job...

if you learn ASP.NET, you basicly doubled you salary once your proficient :)

we inherited some old CF application that need to be redesigned. WE also have Access app which i rewrote in CF. Original Access had many reports that can't be reproduced(hard to) in CF without messing with MS word and RFT formats. These apps will stay in CF. however I think we need to upgrade to CF 7 and i need some strong arguments to do an upgrade for inherited app and the one converted from Access.

As far as /NET, we have one huge app in CF that copmany considers re-writing it and has to decide keep in CF or move to .NET.

Why does the app need re-writing, what is the gain from this? this will be a major determining factor of what platform to use. it's too hard to say without really knowing the situation.

Is there anything wrong with the existing CF application that people could possibly take as a fault with CF, leading them to choose another platform to work from?

Here's the jist of it to save you some reading ..
BlueDragon for the Microsoft .NET Framework allows you to natively integrate and deploy your CFML on the .NET platform. Leverage BlueDragon for the Microsoft .NET Framework for native high-performance integration with COM, ASP.NET, ADO.NET, C# and Visual Basic.NET.
