Hi,

I have a serious problem on my PC ... all the Microsoft Office applications suddenly have the Save-As ON all the time ...

If there's a new email in my inbox for Outlook ... the little Save-As screen is there and I can esc/cancel a thousand million times but it opens automatically over and over ...

Same problem when I try to open Microsoft Word ... a fresh new document but I can't do anything because the Save-As window is stuck open ...

Any other program than MS Office applications the PC works perfectly ???

I really don't want to switch to Open Office, but if Microsoft is screwing with me I may switch and blow off Microsoft altogether ...

I've been using Microsoft Office 2000/XP since way back in maybe 2001 ...

Is there some setting I need to fix that was changed when my back was turned?

Sounds suspiciously like a badly written, incompatible add-in for Word. What happens if you test Word in safe mode?

From Start | Run (Winkey+R), type in

winword /a

and press enter. Word will start in Safe Mode. Do you still have the problem.

My guess is that it will be OK in Safe Mode. You need to find what rogue third party utility has forced an incompatible add-in the Word. These are usually added as templates to the Word Startup folder. Adobe is favourite.

Concur. Check both Templates and add-ins, as well as COM add-ins.

NOTE! while Template and Add-ins is a standard menu item (Tools > Templates and Add-ins), COM Add-ins is not. You must add COM Add-ins to the Tools menu yourself.

In other words, if it is a rogue add-in, just because you do not see it under Template and Add-ins does not mean there isn't one. Further, while normally, add-ins are under Startup, they do not have to be.

So follow Terry suggestion. Try starting Word in Safe Mode and see what happens. While early Adobe PDF add-ins caused major problems, late versions seem to better. Me, I hate having ANY add-ins that I do not control, so even with Adobe I removed it from Startup and put a button on a toolbar that would load and unload its add-in when I wanted it...and not before.
