SAVE AS & DESKTOP SHORTCUTS NOT WORKING

Has anyone had any of these troubles (more importantly a solution!)? Running Win XP Pro and Novell Netware 4.11. Current client is 4.9 downloaded from novell.com.

1) In Excel, Save As will cause to not respond - just hangs

2) Shortcut on Desktop to file on server (example f:\list.xls) will hang, but if you go into Excel Open file and go to F:\list.xls, it works fine.

3) When a file comes up, sometimes it will take forever to load up. If you wait without any action for approx 5 min, then the file will load, otherwise it will hang.

Thanks for any suggestions. (by the way, there is only one drive mapped - dealt with that particular issue).

How much ram is in your server, and what are the following settings at:

Minimum directory cache buffers
Maximum directory cache buffers
Minimum Packet Receive Buffers
Maximum packet receive buffers

How large is the volume that F: is pointing to, and how full is it? How many files are in the particular directory that you mention? Do you have lots of purgable files on this volume?

There are probably some tweaks you could do on the server to help quite a bit. I also have a link somewhere that has a list of different things you can do to XP to improve the client performance. I'll see if I can find it.
