We have a pc that is having SAV update problems.
checked sav and it would not live update, it scanned and downloaded ok, but the installation part dies at 25%
defs were from june.

spybot would not run

uninstalled both

rebooted
reinstalled both
spybot worked, updated cleaned up startup ok, no infections
sav reinstalled shows ver 9 no server or defs
rebooted a few times same things
not in task bar but is running as a process vptray

tried the udpate again same thing, dies at 25%

searched symantec and downloaded the def file ran said updated ok, no def date listed
logged in a few times and the same thing

chekced the symantec man console - shows ver 9 but defs from june

anyone can help.

IS rtvscan running in your process. It sound like it may not be started. vptray is just the symantec icon in the systray. Check to see if it started under services. Or running the NoNav9 utility to completely remove it and install it again. I've seen it where some virus will corrupt the symevent and cause syamantec not to run.

Stop the Symantec Antivirus Service, then go to C:\program files\common files\symantec shared\virus defs. Delete the contents of this folder (including the sub-folders), then copy the contents of the same folder on another client to this folder. Restart the SAV Service.
