SAV CE 9 & client 'windows protection error'

Anyone had a problem when you load the new SAVE CE onto the server then after installing the clients (which are win98) after the restart they all get 'windows protection errors'?

It gave me the option to run liveupdate before i restarted but the site has 20 clients and the server is dialup so it was going to take ages :(

Ive managed to get them back to SAV 8 by going into step by step confirmation and not loading the symantec gear then uninstalling version 9, but they really need to update.
