New to using SAV CE 9.

Have pc's running XP and locked down - not able to run Liveupdate as auto-logged on user, have to Log-off, sign-on as admin & run.
Tried scheduled task for VPC32.exe with "Run As" option, but that still requires manual intervention i.e. the numpty user has to click some options (Not really an option)
Have looked on SAV WebSite and seen cegetter & xdbdown commands.
XDBDown gets the *.xdb file .... then what ???
cegetter gives an error when it tries to run the navup8.exe -- "16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem - The system file is not suitable for running MS-Dos & MS Windows applications"

Basically what I want to do is have the updates run without intervention from either the numpty user or me after hours.

Anybody got any ideas ??

TIA

Well, first off, have you considered running managed clients? If you run a SAV server, you can have the VDTM handle it automagically. This doc might be helpful if you go that route: This is by far the easiest way to manage a network. Seriously.

With XDBDown, you need to edit the batch file so that it saves to the directory where SAV is installed, under Program Files. If SAV finds an XDB in its install directory, it will grab it and process it.

I don't know what's going on with your NAVUP8. Also, LU should be using your System account, so there might be something wrong with your System permissions if it's not having rights to do stuff.

Darksasami I don't have an SAV Server.
I got theXDB file into the correct dir, when/how does it get processed?
Sorted the NAVUP8 thing ... an XP SP2 issue !!!!

Cheers

The .xdb will be processed automatically. However, oops...I shouldn't post so early in the morning. The directory I gave you is right for servers, wrong for clients. From this knowledge base doc:
"For clients running Windows 2000/XP, the default is either C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\ or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\."

Yes, it is 7.5 even though the version is 9.0. Try dropping the xdb there.
