I am new to the Starband arena, and have read that you cant hook up any hardware directly to the starband modem. Why is this? Different protocol?

Anyway, i wanted to hook up a wireless router to connect several machines and was curious if this was possible with starband, and if so, how would i do it if i cant add hardware to the modem?

thanks in advance and sorry for any repeat questions!

You don't add hardware to the modem. You add hardware by plugging it into the Ethernet port of the modem or you network switch/hub. If you use a combination wireless router/hub/access point (like from Siemens or 3COM), it can do it all for you. There is a web interface to plug the Starband numbers into and then the rest of the network can access the Internet.

One caveat - you still have to put in the proxy settings on your web browsers for all clients trying to access the system: It will be the IP address of the satellite modem and port 9877 for all protocols.

Then it should work pretty good. Starband doesnt' have much upstream speed, so a lot of users hitting it at the same time will have to wait if there is an email attachment being sent, but otherwise it will be fine.
