Satellite broadband to router connection?

I'm trying to help a friend of mine setup a wireless network. Her broadband modem, provided by DirectTV, does not have a Cat5 connector -- only a USB.

How can I convert this USB connection to a Cat5 so that I can plug it into the WAN port on the wireless router?

Note: I don't know the proper terminology but the port on her modem is the fat square USB connector. The cable that runs from this fat square connector terminates with a regular thin USB connector that can plug into any PC or USB hub.

I need to convert this "regular flat USB" to a Cat5 and I can't find any devices that do this. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

There are devices that covert USB to Cat 5. The problem is that they do not convert to IP/Ethernet. They covert USB to Cat5 copper and back to USB again up to 100 meters later.

The solution is to set the computer that is served by the satelite up as a router by using an additional ethernet port. Then hubs and wireless access points etc can be used from there.

elwood,

Could you elaborate further. I haven't yet had to bother with USB to ethernet conversions, but it would be nice to understand why you have to use the workstation for routing as opposed to just using a standalone router.

Thanks,
