Firstly, appologies for posting this onto the end of the previous post... Duh

Hi All

I Have a Toshiba Satellite A100 which will not power up. I have tried various power supplies and the original power supply on another laptop, they all work. When I initially plug the PSU in, the yellow battery charge indicator lights up, after a further 5 seconds the green power indicator lights up. When I then press the power button, for a split and I mean split second the screen flashes as does the keyboard illumination, the green power indicator goes off at the same time, but the yellow battery indicator remains static. At no point will the green power indicator come one again until I recycle the whole process. It is also to be noted that no matter how long I leave the laptop on charge, it doesn't, or at least it wont power up.

Now my thought is that it is a faulty DC jack, but if that is the case why would the battery charge indicater always be lit? I don't have a problem with purchasing and soldering in a new jack, but I might be mistaken and don't wish to purchase if I don't have to. Is there any other way of checking this or any other fault finding I can perform?

Many thanks

Rich

I don't know, but my guess at first was the power jack, but after reading over your post a couple times, I'm starting to think other things.

Did you have any problems with overheating, or did you ever leave your laptop laying on a soft surface that may have blocked the airvents causing it to overheat? If either case is true, it could be the CPU is burned out.

Another thought that's coming to my mind is blown/leaing capacitors on the motherboard.

Either one of the latter cases wouldn't be much fun, but that's my guess at this point. Regardless, if you're going to fix anything, you'll have to open it up. Perhaps you can open it up, and take a look at the DC jack. Check the soldered connections, I suppose it could be a short there, perhaps? Also, take a look at the capacitors. Do a Google search on blown or leaking capacitors, and you'll find some pictoral resources to show you what to look for - if you've not looked for them before.

Hi Kjv, thanks for the info, i'm told that the laptop has never overheated! I'll take the plunge and buy a new DC Jack (It's a plug in type) Yes i have had experience of blown / leaking capasitors. Fingers crossed n all that. Rich
