At my school we've got a pretty good setup. The sat dish running @ 400Kbs, at best, goes into a linux box to the proxy and to the switch cabinet. My friend and i have chosen to do an assingment to find a way to speed up the bandwidth tot he user on the system. The Proxy and the Linux are 400Mhz and below. The Sat decoder is a card in the linux box.

Any reason why linux has to control the sat dish, if not, can we just put it straight into the proxy??

Maybe upgrading the hubs to the client workstations is all that's needed - is the NIC in the Linux box 10 or 100Mb/sec?
