I attempted to boot up my system for the first time today. I'm
using a SATA HDD, but windows setup cannot detect any drives
connected to the computer. I double checked power connection
and serial interface on the HDD, both check OK. I went into the
BIOS and set the SATA as the no. 2 boot drive, enabled SATA
function within the BIOS settings, yet it will still not recognize the
disk. Without it. I cannot install windows (this is a BRAND new
system). Is there anything else I need to do to activate this drive?

SYSTEM SPECS:
CPU:AMD XP2600+
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2
HD: Seagate Barricuda 120GB SATA
RAM: 512MB Kingston PC2700
CDRW: Sony 52x24x52
OS: Windows 2K + Ser. Pk 4

Everything is out of the box new, so I'm not looking to point
fingers at defective goods quite yet. However, me and a few
buddies of mine are scratching our heads over this one. Out of
the three of us, we don't really have.

my cdrw is set in the BIOS as the primary boot drive and it is
recognized no problem
also, i just switched the SATA connector to the primary (it was
connected on the secondary, if that matters) yet, still no
recognition. I know that it is being read during start up, it runs
thru IDE drives and then lists the HDD (along with its part number
and available size) just after the IDE checks while initializing the
SATA controller. Also, as far as I know, there is no physical jumper
needed to enable the SATA on the mobo

I have looked on both the MOBO tech site, the Seagate tech site,
downloaded the tech PDF for the drive, searched through the
SATA section of the mobo's manual, and I find nothing.
