The system begins to boot from CD and then hangs. Won't go a step further.

Details:

I've got an emachine with onboard IDE. I bought a 300gig Maxtor SATA/II and a SiiG PCI SATA Card.

My goal is to have the system boot of the Maxtor and use it as the only drive.

I set the jumper on the Maxtor to the SATA I speed, hooked everything up, and kicked it on.

The system begins to boot from CD drive off the onboard IDE and then hangs. Won't go a step further.

I've messed with the jumpers on the drive and no luck. disconnecting the drive but leaving the card in allows the system to boot, but there's not much point in that.

Ideas?

Does the BIOS see the drive OK?

Can you try the drive in another system - it could be a faulty drive?

What jumper settings have you tried?

Have you tried moving the CD to a different IDE port?

Is the CD drive configured as master or slave? If it's the only device on that cable it should be set to master.
