Hi there I have a friend who has the following system
ASUS PV8 deluxe
Athlon 64
120 gb Western digital HDD SATA
ect.

He is quit vaigue on how he has done this all he is can say is he thinks he disabled RAID controller but then says what ever it was he did it is now in the recycle bin?(doesnt add up I know)

The HDD is recognised during the splash screen but windows and the HDD configurations in the BIOS says there is no mass storage device present, have done the F6 thing and loaded Promise Raid drivers and the SATA ones from the ASUS site still no luck.

Have even gone to the stage of re-installing from the computer manufactures disk ( mesh matrix system )hoping it would install all the relevent drivers associated with the system but it still tells me no mass storage device found, any help will be gratefully recieved and possible prevent me from shouting SATA is the spawn of the devil from a high rooftop, thaks in advance.

Two things:
Is SATA enabled in the bios? and boot sequence set correctly?
I have had problems with certain manufactures CDrom discs extracting the right SATA driver to a floppy disk (there often is a choice)
You are doing the correct thing by pressing F6 and installing third party drivers, just keep persevering I been through this exact senario many times.
If it's a single drive then it doesn't need to be set to raid in the bios (the other setting?) can't remember off the top of my head what that is??

You can not reverse the cable on a SATA drive. Regards

Its not just you. I built up a box with a Intel motherboard and two sata drives mirrored and had zero problems at all. I have since built up 3 Soyos and had all kinds of trouble. I loaded the sata drivers but whenever the OS installation would reboot, it would not see the hard drive. I finally got frustrated and used ata-133 drives on IDE instead.
