SATA help

System specs.
MSI k8t800 neo-fis2r
athlon 64 3000+
1gig ocz performance
1 80gig sata(os)
1 250 gig ide
geforce 6800oc
3com 10/100 pci nic

bought my first sata drive, I installed windows to my ide drive because the drive wouldn't show as an option. After updating bios and drivers the drive now shows in windows, it is accessible, and it even has a windows partition on it from my first attemp with an old board. The drive even though it works properly from within windows it will not show in the drive selection menu of the windows installation.... ?

Is SATA enabled as a boot option in the BIOS? I believe you have to have it configured there properly listed higher in the boot order than your IDE drive before it will show.

I have it right below the ide, I will attempt this and thanks for the information.

Are you installing the SATA drivers first?(these are usually supplied on the motherboards CDrom disk and have to be extracted to a floppy disk ready for installation)
At the beginning of the install XP says "press F6 to install third party drivers" you should have this floppy driver disk ready to go so the appropriate driver will be loaded and the drive detected once into the partition and format screens.
