sata 150 & 300

could i use a SATA 150 hard drive on a SATA 300 motherboard? I need to know if the new motherboards are backward compatable.

Have not seen anything regarding SATA 300 backwards compatibility for that specific MB, but other MB manuf's have stated that their SATA 300 controllers and connectors will work with SATA 150 HD's, although performance may be somewhat slower?

Just to clarify...

SATA 150 HD's will work at their full specs on an SATA 300 controller. It's like how USB 1.1 works at USB 1.1 speeds on a USB 2.0 controller.

Hi all,

I've recently added a PCI SATA card and Maxtor 80gb SATA drive to my system and I'm struggling to get an OS on to it.

I've installed the drivers ok and the SATA drive is recognised as drive (f I have one IDE HD (c and 2 optical drives (d: and e

When I try to boot from SCSI in the BIOS I get NTLDR is missing. I've also booted from the XP master disk and used F6 and installed the SATA drivers from floppy, but when I carry on with the installation, all the system finds is my resident C: drive (the IDE HD).

I've also tried to disable the IDE drive but the system cannot find the SATA drive even tho the drivers are found ok?

Can anyone shed any light on this or is there some sort of clash where i've used an expansion card for SATA instead of onboard SATA.
