I am trying to merge the two data sets described below by date. However after merging the observations for each location are shifted around. Maybe somebody can help, if so I would greatly appreciate it.
Rain data (Date is from 5/01 - 9/09 for 11 years and is hourly with four lag variables)
Date Hour Hourlyprecipsum sixhoursum twelvehoursum twentyfourhoursum fortyeighthoursum
05/01/11 1 0.0 0.2 0.3 0.6 0.8
05/01/11 2 .....................................
Ecoli data (also 11 years worth with one observation per location per date)
Date Location E_coli log_ecoli
05/01/11 12th 68 ..
05/01/11 31st .. ..
So what I want is
Date Location E_coli log_ecoli hour Hourlyprecipsum and then the lag variables
