One of our servers fiber adapter will be replaced with higher model and will transfer the fiber cables from the old card to the new one we are ..

My question is, is it a straight forward procedure will the new card get the the existing san disk from the old card? buy just plugging the existing fiber cables

Or there are configuration needed to perform the said transferring of cables to be able to transfer the existing san disk , will we need to configure something in the mcdata switch or ESS shark to able the SAN disk be regonized by the new adapter?

Sorry I am newbie in san environment the one handling SAN just resign ...

thanks in advance

You need, beside to replacement of the HBA:

-Modify de switch zonning in order to connect to new HBA to the (storage) port used for the old card
-If you have LUN Masking, modify the storage config in order to give the LUNs (from the old HBA) to the new one.

This is not difficult, but it must to be done for someone who knows what to do.

Cheers.
