Anyone out there ever experience this?
In a SAN environment, either a format or an erase of a tape takes a very long period of time. A regular inventory is normal.. All drives have been cleaned, and I am using known good tapes.

Thanks

On the startup of the Tape Engine the library supplies the inventory based off the barcodes, so it is fast.

When the Inventory command is issued via the ARCserve Device Manager window the tapes are loaded into a tape drive and read, it just does not write to tape like in a format or erase.

So if this inventory is not slow then it is only when writing to tape that the problem happens, and off hand I am not sure what would effect writing to tape but not reading.

If this just started happening, check for updated drivers or firmware to the HBA or some other device in the path through the SAN.
