Samsung CLP-500N errors

We have a Samsung CLP-500N Colour laser printer that had a band of colour that ran across the page. I cleaned the transfer belt, which corrected the problem for a short time. It came back so I got a new imaging drum & transfer belt.
On installing these I get an error message that the imaging unit is invalid. I have gone through the maintenance menus & reset the imaging unit, but this makes no difference. If I replace the old imaging drum I am then told that the transfer belt is invalid. These are both genuine Samsung parts, but I cannot see a way to sort this out. Has anyone had a similar problem & how did you sort it.
Help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

I know it's a different brand, but I was told by Konica-Minolta support that when you insert a toner cartridge into a printer it writes a key in code to the cartridge. If you try and re-install a previously-installed cartridge it will not work. I guess this is a device to prevent re-fill of old cartridges, I don't know, but it's sillier that DRM.

I had just installed $400 worth of new cartridges in a machine, its first replacement set, when the machine broke. I removed them and replaced the original empties before I sent it back. When the new printer arrived, the $400 worth of cartridges would not work in the new model, leading to my support call and the disclosure of the code policy.

Luckily, I did have an older model that accepted them. I will not buy another Konica-Minolta product nor a Samsung now that I know they must have a similar policy.

The thing is these are brand new Samsung original Imaging drum & Transfer belt.
It just doesn't make any sense. I spent out £300.00 on toner first because the Yellow & Magenta had run out, then I have this problem, so £180.00 later it still wont work. I wish I had stuck to HP, never had a problem like this before.
