I get "unreported" read errors from my Samsung CD-ROM SC-148A 48X drive. When I use a sound editor to look at some of the files copied from a Music CD to my hard drive I can see "drop outs" and I can hear the clicks too. I know that the CD is not the problem because I can read it without errors with the HP DVD writer in the same machine. Should I get my money back from Office Depot where I bought the computer?

Easiest way is to get another cd player and swap it for the Samsung cd player you have. If that solves the problem then you know the cd player is faulty.

ylustrata,

If this HP computer that you got at Office Depot is less than a year old, then you probably have a warranty and you should contact HP for warranty service.

If you don't have a warranty, 48x CD-Roms can be had for under $20.
