When using SAM on a HP9000 system, and take the option Disk Devices you see the following information:

Hardware path -No of paths - Use - Vol Group - Desc.

8/0.0.0 1 SPT _____ MTI 3500 B01
8/0.0.1 1 Alternate ___ MTI 3500 B01

Would appreciate it if someone could explain what SPT and Alternate means, as I have not come across this before.

Thanks

Spt stands for SCSI Pass Through, which is the driver for the Series 800 NIO bus which provides support for Single Ended SCSI Devices. It allow you to use the Generic SCSI commands that cannot be used with SCSI specific drivers.
I guess to answer you question possibly in part your disk on hardware path 8/0.0.0 is controller with a SCSI Pass through driver.
