Sametime upgrade version 1.5 to 2.5

We are upgrading our Sametime environment from version 1.5 to version 2.5. Has anybody out here ever done this? I have the server upgrade figured out, but I am not so sure about the client upgrade. I believe the default directories for the two version are different. I'm just curious if anybody has done this upgrade and what advice they can offer for making the client upgrades easier.
(We have about 600 + Active Sametime users world wide.)
